Shanatu Qadishti - Calendar

Each year starts around September of the secular calendar and runs through around August of the secular calendar. Years are divided up according to lunar months. Chudthu is new moon; mlatu is full moon; 'Ashuru means "feast," festival. The Shanatu Qadishtu is a calendar based both on lunar months and solar year, and thus it resets every third year or so, so that the holidays may continue to fall within the same seasons every year with an added lunar intercalary month. The year numbers are related to the rediscovery of the city of Ugarit, hence "Shanatu 92" or "Year 92" would be the 92nd year since the rediscovery of the city of Ugarit. Holidays and events begin on the evening before the actual calendar day. A note for those in the southern hemisphere: this calendar is a civic calendar meant to honor the cycles as they were honored in Ugarit, and thus it is not a calendar which gets shifted in the southern hemisphere.
